LisaRaye McCoy’s Mother Passes At 77

The actress shared an emotional message on Instagram revealing the devastating news.

Actress LisaRaye McCoy revealed the passing of her mother, Katie McCoy, in a February 11 Instagram post. The circumstances surrounding the late 77-year-old’s death haven’t been announced, but LisaRaye shared that her grief was fresh.

LisaRaye of The Players Club took to her Instagram account to write, “I’m numb. I lost my mother last night. It was expected but never could I prepare. Being strong is what you taught me, but I can’t say it applies today.” She continued in the caption, “I will make your transition a celebration of memories that I’ll cherish. I’ll miss you.” She backed the beautiful photos of Kate in the post with Celine Dion’s song “Because You Loved Me.”

The outpouring of support from her followers was immediate, with friends and former co-stars offering their condolences for the loss in the comments.

Former Real Housewives of Atlanta star Cynthia Bailey penned, “I am so sorry, Lisa Raye. My prayers are with you and your family.” Her friend Vivica A. Foxx told her to stay strong in the wake of the loss.

“Prayers up, QUEEN! Stay Strong! #RestInPeace #RESTINPARADISE.” another fan added, “My condolences. Nothing can prepare you for losing your mom. But with GOD’S grace, you will have the strength to make it through your days,”

“My condolences to you and all who knew and loved her,” another supporter added in the comments.

Just a few years ago, LisaRaye appeared on the OWN Network’s episode of Iyanla: Fix My Life alongside her mother, Katie and her daughter. The episode featured the three women attempting to work through their longstanding family issues and harmful patterns that arose over three generations of women. The episode was a testament to just how dedicated Katie and the actress were to mending their relationship.
