This past May, a rapper Courtney Bruce, from Columbus, Ohio, known professionally as Boog The Bandit, died at age 26 after being fatally shot while sitting in a car. According to the Columbus Dispatch, police have charged Kyson Murphy with murder and felony aggravated robbery over the shooting, with homicide investigators determining that Bruce, along with an unnamed 25-year-old man, were allegedly ambushed

by him.

Bruce, who was reportedly met with several men holding handguns on May 20, was allegedly shot, pistol-whipped and robbed of her jewelry and other belongings, the witness stated. According to the court records obtained by the Columbus Dispatch, the 25-year-old was stripped of his cell phone and cash. He was not struck by the gunfire.

It is unclear whether Murphy or another person shot Bruce during the May 20 incident.

arrested the 22-year-old on Monday after a search warrant of his cell phone records allegedly showed that he had an earlier conversation about needing money and potentially robbing someone. He was booked into Columbus’ Franklin County Jail, according to ABC 6.

Under Boog The Bandit, the rising female rapper released her first single “Lonely” last year and followed up with the tracks “Hot Topic,” “Risky,” and “Heart Away” before her death. Her music is available for listening on Spotify and Apple Music.
