Kanye West Requests for Joint Custody and No Spousal Support

West strays from a civil divorce with this one.

In response to the divorce papers filed by Kim Kardashian, Kanye West has decided to request joint custody and to provide no spousal support in their settlement.

According to a legal response from the rapper’s attorney obtained by People, West requests joint legal and physical custody of their children: daughters North and Chicago and their sons Saint and Psalm.

West wants the court’s right to award spousal support for either person to be terminated, the filing reported.

In his response to Kardashian’s divorce, West’s counsel listed irreconcilable differences as the couple’s reason for the divorce.

The rift between West and Kardashian came after a rough patch for the pair, who seemed to be holding on to their marriage by a thread last summer before reconnecting and spending alone time in private time together with their children.

However, their bubble was burst real quick! Reality came crashing after their vacation. Multiple sources confirmed to People that Kardashian worked with Laura Wasser, a high-profile divorce attorney, and planned to file for divorce.

“They are just not on the same page when it comes to their future as a family,” one insider said at the time. “And Kim is okay with it.”

A source shared with People that, “They both agree that the less stress the kids experience, the better. Kanye loves his kids. He wants them to be happy.”

“He doesn’t want to fight with Kim about anything.”

Reportedly a source close to West stated that the artist “isn’t happy,” but “resigned to reality” after Kardashian filed for their divorce.

“He knew it was coming, but that doesn’t make it any easier,” the source added.

West and Kardashian began their love story in 2012, they married in May 2014, and Kardashian filed for divorce in February 2021.

People reported, according to a statement shared by a source, neither the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star nor West have decided to contest their prenup in place and are nearing a settlement.
