Talk show host and Grammy-winning singer Jennifer Hudson was under fire after a viral TikTok video showed she donated a purse gifted to her by an emerging fashion designer, who quickly defended her.
A TikToker under the name “crystellec” filmed her thrift shopping and brought attention to a unique bag with the words, “You fake like this Birkin.” Located in the back of the purse, the TikToker discovered designer Sonique Saturday’s business card and an exclusive note directed at Jennifer Hudson.

The note read, “Ms. Jennifer Hudson, what an honor to gift you with one of my handbags. You’ve inspired me just as much as every other Black girl….and for that, I wanted to personally say thank you! I hope you enjoy wearing this as much as I enjoyed making it just for you.”
Commenter immediately got on Hudson for donating a gifted bag.
“Ngl, I would’ve been hurt if I were to find out my personalized gift ended up here.”
“She cold for donating it with the card.”
“Probably told her assistant to get rid of it.”
“Damn, so Jenn just gon’ throw the purse-gift away. Shadddyyy.”
“How the hell did that end up there? That’s so messed up. She probably didn’t even see the note.”
“Smh being the owner of a black-owned business, this really hurts because that designer intended for J HUD to receive her product, so either she received it and gave it away, or whoever she sent it to never gave it to her. But that’s the roll of the dice sending product to celebrities, unfortunately.”
Others called Hudson donating the bag a win, considering many of her bigger purses’ prices ranged from $230 to $550, and the TikToker found one personally made for Hudson for a lower price.
Others claimed there was a possibility Hudson never saw the bag.
Sonique spoke with TMZ and encouraged the internet to seize fire and to cut the EGOT celebrity some slack.
She explained that she had known some of Hudson’s team members since childhood, and they encouraged her to send the singer a bag years ago.
While Sonique is up and coming, celebrities like Amber Rose and Skai Jackson have flaunted her bags publicly.
