Jenifer Lewis To Be Honored With Star On Hollywood Walk Of Fame

The Hollywood Walk Of Fame producer called her a "national treasure."

Legendary award-winning actress Jennifer Lewis will be honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame at a ceremony in California.

According to the Hollywood Walk Of Fame’s official website, Lewis will be honored with the 2,726th star on July 15. Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Chairman Lupita Sanchez Cornejo is set to emcee the ceremony, and guest speakers, legendary award-winning dancer and actress Debbie Allen, and famed composer Marc Shaiman are also scheduled to take the podium.

“Jenifer Lewis is considered a national treasure and a force to be reckoned with. She is one of those performers who always keeps the audience on their toes!” Hollywood Walk of Fame Producer Ana Martinez exclaimed. “I placed Jenifer’s star next to one of her all-time favorite actresses, the legendary Katharine Hepburn. Those ladies are two peas in a pod, as both delved in Human Rights activities and are known to be as feisty as all get out!”

Lewis, originally born in Missouri, got her start in acting via a small role in the Broadway play “Eubie.” She snagged the role after moving to New York City to pursue a career in the performance arts once she obtained a degree at Webster University.

In the years to come, the actress moved on to become a backup singer for legendary award-winning actress and singer Bette Midler, which led her to appear on Midler’s HBO specials. At the time, Lewis also performed her comedy and music show The Diva Is Dismissed at various lounges in NYC and the Public Theater.

The 65-year-old has since starred in countless television series, movies, animated films, and Broadway shows over the years, including The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, A Different World, Sister Act, What’s Love Got to Do With It, Girlfriends, Think Like a Man, Madea’s Family Reunion, The Princess and the Frog

and more. Most recently, she starred in ABC network’s hit show Black-ish for eight consecutive seasons and now plays a leading role in the new Showtime series I Love That For You.

In 2017, Lewis released her autobiography “The Mother of Black Hollywood,” and her latest book, “Walking in My Joy: In These Streets,” will be released in August.
