Jazmine Sullivan Defends Lizzo After Mesh Dress Backlash

It's always great to see women have each other's backs against negativity.

Jazmine Sullivan took the time to come to Lizzo’s defense after negative opinions about the see-through dress she wore to Cardi B.’s party.

In an exclusive from Hollywood Unlocked, Sullivan took

to Instagram to offer support to her fellow artist after a commenter mentioned her in their critique of Lizzo.

“Something [sic] wrong with her. Girl, get that Adele and Jazmine Sullivan surgery and move on. Because that’s what your [sic] going to do in the end,” the commenter said.

As social media mentions go, when you call for someone, they just may show up, and Sullivan did just that. However, she took the high road by reaffirming Lizzo and offering the commenter a grammar check flawlessly.

“She looks beautiful. She IS beautiful. Also, you’re,” Sullivan said.

Sullivan has spoken about women who have influenced her, and Lizzo is one of those women.

In an NPR interview about her most recent album, “Heaux Tales,” she talked about how positively Lizzo represents

women of size and how her confidence inspired Sullivan to push through with the album.

“And also Lizzo, who represented for us big, beautiful Black women. I was so proud of her for telling the world that she loves herself. Even if you do love yourself, I feel like some people may try to hide it because they don’t feel like everybody else will get with it, but she just put it out there. It inspired me to get on that track, and want to continue to help women bust the barriers down,” Sullivan said.

Lizzo has also spoken about how people’s negative comments can get to her sometimes despite being a confident woman.

The internet is a place that is full of opinions. However, they aren’t always expressed graciously. Fortunately, women like Sullivan are quick to come to the defense of women who are being picked on undeservedly.
