The self-proclaimed “King of R&B” Jacquees sang the national anthem at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, on Dec. 6, and the internet had jokes.
In a now-viral moment, Jacquees’ rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” was the talk of Monday night’s Lakers’ game. The 27-year-old singer, clad in all black and bling, oversang the standard by putting runs on every word.
He proudly posted the national anthem performance on Instagram, writing, “My 1st time singing the National Anthem at the Staples Center R.I.P. Kobe! S/o the whole @lakers squad! ???LOVE! ?? ????.”
Black Twitter did not disappoint with its commentary.
One tweet hit the nail on the head when describing what Jacquees’ performance lacked.
Although Black Twitter was critical of Jacquees’ performance, he was unbothered.
“???? it was 1 for the Books! ? thank you ? HAPPY BIRTHDAY GRANDMA!!! ???? ?? #RestInnParadise #LLM ?”
In October, Jacquees and a well-known rapper trended on Twitter for his uncanny resemblance to Migos’ Quavo.
It’s great that Jacquees is confident. Confidence goes a long way.
