Irv Gotti Had Words For Ashanti Over Re-Recording Her Albums To Own Her Masters

Gotti is salty.

Ashanti is re-recording her albums so that she will own the masters’ rights to her music, but record producer Irv Gotti had some harsh words for the singer over the decision.

The singer decided to re-record her albums so that she would have administrative control over her music by owning the master recordings.

Ashanti announced her decision in September and said she was blessed to be able to do so. The singer spoke with Angie Martinez on Power 105.1 about the importance of owning the rights to her music, and Martinez posted a clip on Instagram.

“The thinking behind that is showing the business side of ownership,”she said. “And how important it is to own. And once I re-record the first album, I own it. When that goes, everything purchased from that moment, I own.”

Gotti apparently got salty upon seeing the clip because he wrote in the comment section that he owned the rights to the albums Ashanti was re-recording and accused Ashanti of “trying to f**k me out of my Masters.”

“Just for super clarity. I own all those great Ashanti Albums Angie,” he wrote. “I own the Masters. And I Produced all those great Ashanti Albums. So, I also own a good portion of the Publishing. What she is trying to do is re-record all those great records. And put them out on her label. She can do this under the COVER laws. But she is basically trying to f**k me out of my Masters.”

The Shade Room posted a video of the interview with Gotti’s comments on Instagram.

“#PressPlay: Oop! Looks like #IrvGotti isn’t here for #Ashanti’s decision to re-record her classic albums! He says she’s trying to finesse him out of his masters. Thoughts, #Roommmates? (SWIPE) (?: @angiemartinez).”
Gotti produced Ashanti’s self-titled debut album “Ashanti” with 7 Aurelius that was released in 2002.
