A new trend is buzzing on Black Twitter. Earlier this week Twitter users took modern photos and memes and made up fake family stories as a joke. After a user did this to one of Halle Berry’s photos, calling the picture “a rare photo of my grandma in 1964,” she playfully retweeted back “Um…”

Berry is clearly taking this trend in jest, and she’s not alone. Comedia David Alan Grier

commented under her retweet, “Jus disrespectful,” with a straight-faced emoji.

After a Twitter user explained to him that it was a new social media trend and meant in no way to be disrespectful, Grier let them know that he was only poking fun.

“You’re reading too much into frivolous comments,” he wrote back.

For days now, social media users have taken pictures of Future, Quavo, Cuba Gooding Jr., and dozens of other celebrities and meme stars to make the hilarious “historical” memes.

One person tweeted a black-and-white meme of Jackie Christie of Basketball Wives sitting on a bus, writing “My great aunt witnessing Rosa Parks refuse to give up her seat in 1955.”

Another person shared Keke Palmer’s viral “sorry to this man” video clip with the caption, “Archived footage of my Grandmother in 1969, being interrogated by the FBI and refusing to turn over members of the Black Panther Party.”
