GMA Anchor T. J. Holmes Tearfully Delivers Jovita Moore Tribute On-Air

While delivering a touching tribute for late news anchor Jovita Moore, Good Morning America’s T. J. Holmes broke down into tears as he discussed the 54-year-old’s battle with brain cancer, untimely death and impact on his career as a young journalist.

Discussing her career in covering Atlanta news, Holmes touched on several notable celebrity tributes to Moore over the past week, including director-producer Tyler Perry and the Atlanta Braves baseball team. Choking back tears, Holmes then emotionally

shared, “She is survived by her mother, two children and stepdaughter — I’m sorry. I moved to Atlanta as a CNN anchor, and she took me in. And that woman was special.”

“I’m sorry, I didn’t realize I had to do this read this morning,” Holmes continued. “But Jovita was something special, so… I’m sorry.”

Fellow GMA newscaster Robin Roberts then stepped in to assure him it was okay, saying, “Nothing to apologize for. She was, and it was special when she would come and visit us here in the studio. And I absolutely agree with you. Her personality, so electric, dynamic. And such a beautiful smile and beautiful person.”

Sister 2 Sister previously reported that Moore passed away last Thursday evening, Oct. 28, after battling glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer with no cure, for seven months. According to Web MD, the disease is rare, with only 14,000 U.S. diagnoses per year.

A beloved nightly news anchor for the WSB-TV news station in Atlanta, Georgia, since 1998, Moore has

snagged multiple Emmy awards throughout her journalism career. She was also a member of the National Association of Black Journalists, Outstanding Atlanta’s Class of 2004 and the Leadership Atlanta’s Class of 2007.

The New York native will undoubtedly be remembered by family, friends, colleagues and countless devoted viewers for years to come.
