Verzuz announced on social media that they would be breaking free from their usual rap battle formula to bring on two R&B legends to compete on Thursday, June 23.
Fans prepared to see “Ice-Box” singer Omarion face off against “Let Me Love You’s” Mario but still hadn’t seen the original battlers. Surprisingly, Verzuz further shook things up with their bonus two-on-two matches. The supplemental battle will feature Ray J and Bobby V against a team composed of Pleasure P and Sammie.
Black Twitter cut up while impatiently waiting for the main event. The reactions were hilarious.
Musically, Omarion and Mario are both iconic singers held in high regard in the R&B community. Omari Ishmael Grandberry – more commonly known as Omarion, has a handful of hit singles fans expect to hear in the Verzuz face-off. Singles like ‘Girlfriend,’ ‘Post to Be,’ ‘Ice Box,’ and ‘Bump, Bump, Bump’ are expected to be performed. On the other hand, Mario has five solo albums with his own set of bangers like ‘Just a Friend 2002’, ‘Let Me Love You,’ ‘How Do I Breathe,’ ‘Crying Out for Me,’ and ‘Music for Love.’
However, on the internet and in true Twitter fashion, people are already cracking jokes, and they just can’t seem to agree on who will come out on top. An excited fan tweeted, “Who y’all got Omarion or Mario for the Verzuz battle?? I love Mario, but I’m rooting for Omarion. Like Omarion got it!! He has it!!!”
Another opposed with, “Omarion is about to get smoked by Mario! Vocally, Mario is so far ahead of him; he’ll embarrass O. MH is about to be.”
One user chimed in with a hilariously flippant view, “Omarion vs. Mario 20 for 20 gonna be interesting cause I can’t even name ten songs between both of em.”
Regardless of who you think will win, it will undoubtedly be a match-up to watch when it finally happens!
