ESPN’s Sage Steele Recovering From Golf Ball Hit At PGAs

The gold ball hit her at more than 180 mph!

ESPN anchor Sage Steele is recovering after being hit in the face with a stray golf ball.

Jon Rahm’s stray golf ball accidentally hit the 49-year-old on Thursday at the PGA Championship. Golf writer Geoff Shackelford described the incident on his blog “The Quadrilateral” as he watched Rahm’s 181 mph shot hit the broadcaster.

“I was standing behind the tee when Rahm hit a hard hook into the left trees. He immediately yelled ‘Fore Left!’ and aggressively waved his arm pointing left,” he wrote. “The impact must have been brutal: Rahm’s tee shot ended up in the center of the fairway,” he wrote.

“I saw her on the ground, holding her nose, mouth or chin area,” with her hands “covered in blood,” he continued.

Steele required immediate medical attention and was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa.

She shared an Instagram post on Saturday thanking everyone for their support while she hopes to make a full recovery.

“I just want to thank everyone for your concern and prayers during the last couple of days,” Steele wrote.

“From the doctors, nurses and EMT’s at St. Francis hospital in Tulsa, to my doctor & dentist here in Connecticut, and my co-workers at ESPN, I am so grateful. With the help of my team, I hope to recover quickly for my 3 kids, and to get back to work. Looking forward to seeing everyone again soon.”

Last month, Steele sued ESPN and its parent company, Walt Disney Co., alleging that the company retaliated against her after making comments on a podcast interview last September.

According to the lawsuit, the company failed to “stop bullying and harassment by Ms. Steele’s colleagues.”

The lawsuit is ongoing.
