Dreamdoll Channels Lil’ Kim And Cadet Kelly For Hot 97 Summer Jam Performance Jumpsuit

Dreamdoll opened at the concert, bringing out Capella Grey and CJ.

Dreamdoll not only slayed in her performance at this year’s Hot 97 Summer Jam at the MetLife Stadium but she and her designers did with her outfit for the performance. The rapper suited up in a pink camouflaged jumpsuit that looked a little familiar.

The “You Know My Body” rapper gave homage to ’90s rapper Lil’ Kim, who’s also known to be a fashion icon on top of her fire-style bars. Lil’ Kim wore a jumpsuit of the same style at the 1999 MTV Music Awards. While Kim’s jumpsuit was a coruscating purple with a purple pasty, Dreamdoll’s jumpsuit was pink with a pink bedazzled pasty in the form of a New York Yankees logo, which is where the Bronx-native is from — so is Lil’ Kim.

“Kim is one of the pioneers for female rap from fashion, tone, and lyrics to energy and vibe,” stylist Demi Dorsey said to Girls United. “When [you] think about female rap, especially from New York, she’s one of the first, if not the first, that pops in your head.”

Lil’ Kim wasn’t the only inspiration behind Dreamdoll’s stage look. Devising ideas for the type of print, Dorsey gained inspiration from the popular Disney Channel Original Movie Cadet Kelly

.

“We had a random conversation while we were prepping a tour and we both had this idea of doing pink camo like the Cadet Kelly  movie from Disney.”

As for the pasty idea, Dorsey said the idea came from when he was scrolling through is iPad and stumbled upon an image of Rihanna during her Rated R tour.

“…I was like, ‘How can I make this more hip-hop and sexier?’,” Dorsey explained. “I always like to represent New York with Dream because in my eyes she’s the epitome of a New York girl. With that, one of the most iconic signs of New York I thought about [was]Jay-Z with the Yankee fitted. I was like, ‘Let’s use the Yankee symbol as a pasty,’ and it worked!”

That it did!
