Disney’s Skai Jackson’s $5 Raffle Upset Fans Who Were Expecting A MacBook Giveaway

There is a legal difference between a raffle and a giveaway.

Former Disney star Skai Jackson is being accused of pocketing fans’ money after asking them to send $5 to enter a raffle with proceeds not going to charity.

As explained by Jackson, the raffle is supposed to afford the prized MacBook, the latest and most expensive version is MacBook Pro 16″ from $2499, and the money exceeding the amount is meant to carry over to the next prize.

“It’s called a raffle, I don’t know if you guys have been to school before, but I know I’ve been to school, and we used

to have raffles all the time,” the Disney star said. “The money goes toward a prize, and like I said, if there’s anything left over, I’m doing a second giveaway soon. So that’s what it’s going toward.”

“I do not need money,” Jackson said. “Me, personally, I do not need money. And I’m not saying this like in a bragging way or anything like that, or in a mean way. I’m just letting you guys know I do not personally need money. Like I am very fine in my life.”

Despite the Disney actress’ explanation of what a raffle is and declaring she has financial stability, some of her fans questioned why she could have bought the MacBook herself as a giveaway.

A raffle and a giveaway are both promotional activities that involve distributing prizes to participants, but they differ in their mechanisms and legal considerations.

A raffle is when participants typically purchase tickets or pay an entry fee to enter a raffle. They are then entered into a drawing or random selection process where winners are chosen. On the other hand, a giveaway has its participants enter by following certain instructions or completing specific actions, such as liking a social media post, sharing content, subscribing to a newsletter, or filling out a form. Winners are randomly or subjectively selected based on predetermined criteria.

Winners of Jackson’s raffle got announced between July 10 and July 11.
