Damon Wayans And Son To Star In New Father-Son Comedy Series

This will be the third time the duo appears in a series together.

Veteran comedian and actor Damon Wayans and his son, Damon Wayans Jr., are set to star in a new father-son comedy series.

According to Deadline, the series follows

a fictional legendary talk show host nicknamed “Poppa” (Wayans) and his adult son (Wayans Jr.). Poppa’s son reportedly inherited his charm but not his work ethic, which resulted in the young man “kicking and screaming into adulthood” before turning 40.

Wayans reportedly co-wrote the currently untitled project alongside executive producer Kevin Hench. The father-son series is headed to CBS, which houses Wayans Jr.’s Two Shakes Entertainment.

This wouldn’t be the first time the duo played father and son on-screen. Wayans previously guest-starred on his son’s ABC series Happy Endings (2011 to 2013) and his CBS series Happy Together (2018 – 2019).

In an interview with entertainment tonight, Wayans Jr. expressed how much fun he had working with his father.

“It was great. We had a blast together,” he told

the outlet in 2018. “We hang out all the time in real life, so it wasn’t a stretch. It didn’t feel foreign. It just felt like hanging out in front of a live audience.”

The latest project they’ll be starring in marks Wayans’ return to network comedy after co-creating and executive producing the hit ABC show My Wife And Kids. The legendary ’00s series, starring veteran actress Tisha Campbell, ran for five seasons from 2001 to 2005 and launched Wayans Jr.’s acting career. On the show, he played the major recurring role of “John.”

Wayans is a four-time Emmy nominee who starred in and co-created the iconic sketch series In Living Color (1990 – 1994). He recently starred on Fox’s Lethal Weapon as fictional character Roger Murtaugh and will be starring in Tubi’s Cinnamon featuring the legendary actress Pam Grier.
