Cardi B Says She’s “A Prisoner Of Fame” Following Internet Drama Surrounding 2022 MET Gala Afterparty

"I hate it. Why me?" she said.

Grammy Award-winning rapper Cardi B said she’s “a prisoner of fame” following internet drama surrounding her 2022 MET Gala afterparty.

Cardi, whose real name is Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar, took to Instagram live to air out her grievances about being a celebrity.

“I really hate it. Let me tell y’all something, if y’all ever wish to be rich and famous, don’t wish to be famous. Don’t wish to be famous. Wish to be rich,” she said. “Y’all see me these couple of days right? Y’all see that I’ve been partying, going to the club with my n***a, everything, blah blah blah, y’all see that I’m in a good mood. Once I step out [and] once I start doing anything that will go on social media, it’s always bad. I’m so sick of it.”

She added that she wished she could go back to her stripper days because it was a simpler time in her life.

“I hate it. Why me? I feel like god cursed me with fame, deadass, because fame is just like, oh god, I hate it here. If I could click my f*****g feet three times and go back to f*****g 2013, when I was just a regular b***h–dancing and making money every single night–that’s where I wanna be. That’s when I was me…2016, that’s when I was me.”

She also compared fame to her younger years in school, when she was sent to the principal’s office all the time despite trying to be on her best behavior.

“I feel like I’m a celebrity [that’s] always in the principal’s office bro, goodness gracious. I was always that kid in school that [was] like, today I’m gonna behave…and then I end up in the principal’s office. That’s how I feel about fame.”

Almánzar was recently caught up in social media drama after a clip of her hosting the 2022 MET Gala afterparty in NYC went viral. In the clip, she told partygoers to have a good time, and swiped her nose which many speculated was a reference to sniffing cocaine.

Shortly after, Grammy Award-winning singer Billie Eillish was seen mouthing “so weird,” which fans thought was shade towards to the rapper. However, the Bronx native cleared the rumors up.

“I hate the internet cause one, how do y’all turn one of the most lit parties into drama?” she wrote on May 3. “Two, Ocean eyes is the song I cater to my daughter. Three, Billie is my fuckin baby. Yesterday, from the MET to the party, everything was drama free. Why do y’all wanna turn everything into mess?”

The “Up” musician attended the MET Gala with famed Italian fashion designer Donatella Versace, wearing a beautiful Gold metal halter dress.

According to a statement from Versace, it took 20 people and about 1,300 hours to finish the dress.
