After having been accused of cultural appropriation for her maternity shoot where she’s seen wearing traditional African attire, Cardi B took to Instagram to set things straight and shared her inspiration behind the look.

In the maternity shoot photo, Kulture’s hand caressed her mommy’s baby bump while looking at one another.

Cardi’s outfit consists of a tall head wrap paired with a criss-cross top and a high-slit skirt.

Kulture was styled in a look seemingly similar, but instead of a two-piece set, she wore a dress. She also had on a mini version of her mom’s head wrap.

Cardi wrote a note to Kulture and her unborn sibling as a caption to the post and said, “I just know these two will love each other soo much and argue soo much since they’re three years apart…just like Henny and me.”

“But one thing for sure is they’ll have each other’s back like no one else ever will,” she added.

The outfits worn by Cardi and her daughter in the shoot are native to Afro-Caribbean culture.

However, social media critics thought that the look was appropriating African cultural tradition due to the similarity in style.

According to National Clothing, traditional customs in Caribbean cultures are based on the practices of former enslaved Africans in the Caribbean.

Cardi B seemed to be deeply offended by the accusations and took to both Instagram and Twitter to educate her followers and give insight into the matter.

The look was apparently inspired by Dominican cultural wear, and Cardi B is known to have an Afro-Caribbean background with roots in the Dominican Republic and Trinidad and Tobago.

She shared photos of two women dancing in white cultural wear to her Instagram and Twitter accounts.

In the third photo, she attached a short comment saying, “In the name of Afro-Caribbeans, don’t be an uncultured swine.”
