Business Owner Moved From Trinidad With Only $20 Owns New York Beauty Spa

Shivaughnette Mendoza, the founder, and owner of Bella Body Spa and Beauty Lounge in New York City, after moving to New York with only $20 from Trinidad.

According to Essence, Mendoza’s spa offers many services at the location, from nails to hair and makeup to body sculpting, dermaplaning, and butt plumping services.

Despite her success in the beauty industry, Mendoza comes from humble beginnings and isn’t a stranger to hard work. She went to the United States from Trinidad when she was only 21 with $20 to her name.

She soon started working as a nanny, then worked in the insurance industry and a tax agency. After hopping from job to job for a while, she finally was able to see in tunnel vision and found out that her dream was to own a spa.

She soon became a licensed esthetician and began servicing clients out of her home. As demand outgrew the space, she opened a new space and worked with other vendors to offer additional services. That’s when Bella Body Spa and Beauty Lounge came to life.

Mendoza said that she hopes Bella Body Spa and Beauty Lounge can inspire the women who walk through the doors.

“As a woman myself and seeing where I came from and the journey I took, to become who I am today. I believe in celebrating other women who have fought the battle and taken the steps to build their dreams and even assisting others in their fight because we all deserve to win.”

Bella Spa plans to expand to have additional locations, with its Trinidad location opening on November 15th and Atlanta and Houston in the upcoming years.
