Brandy Honors Whitney Houston With Rendition Of ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ At 2022 NFC Championships

She also wore a white Prada track-suit.

Brandy honored her mentor Whitney Houston while singing a rendition of the National Anthem at the 2022 NFC Championship game on Jan. 30. The game took place at the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif.

During the homage, Brandy wore a Prada white tracksuit similar to the one worn by Whitney Houston when she sang her inspiring rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the 1991 Super Bowl in Tampa, Florida.

The 42-year-old was a friend of the superstar and also idolized her. Brandy has spoken previously about her love for Houston. The “Boy Is Mine” singer starred in the 1997 Rodgers & Hammerstein’s musical Cinderella with Houston, who played her fairy godmother. Houston also worked as a producer on the project.

“My childhood dreams were to be a singer, touch as many people as I could and to meet Whitney Houston, just meet her,” said Brandy. “So to meet her, hang out with her and sing with her. It was unbelievable. For her to cast me in such a role, the first Black princess, I don’t know the words to really describe what that feels like.”

Brandy posted a clip of her performance in Inglewood on Instagram.

“What a moment♥️ Thank you God for courage and a solid foundation,” wrote Brandy. “I love you.

On Feb. 11, 2012, Houston died at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. The singer was found face-down in a bathtub. The cause of death was listed as an accidental drowning with cocaine use and heart disease as mitigating factors.

Brandy admitted she wanted to blame someone for the “All At Once” singer’s death in the upcoming book by Gerrick Kennedy, “Didn’t We Almost Have It All.”

The “Almost Doesn’t Count” singer wrote

the forward for the novel and also spoke about the legend that is Whitney Houston.

“Whitney could take you to so many places with just her voice,” said Brandy. “She has inspired generations of little girls all over the world to sing from their heart and guts. That was her magic, and that’s her legacy. And we’ll never see another Whitney Houston.”
