Botched Florida BBL Claims Life Of Grandmother, Miami Doctor Only Fined $10,000

The doctor was slapped with a $10k fine.

A Florida grandmother of 11 has died after a botched Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) procedure.

According to Atlanta Black Star, Tanesha Walker underwent liposuction and a Brazilian butt lift procedures at the New Life Plastic Surgery center in Miami in April last year.

The 47-year-old Indiana woman was discharged and died a few days later after suffering fatal complications post-surgery.

“She was there for everyone,” said her niece, Tataneshia Middleton. “She took care of all of them emotionally.”

The doctor who performed the BBL has been hit with a $10,000 fine by The Florida Board of Medicine, which many are criticizing as a mere slap on the wrist.

The autopsy report by Miami-Dade Chief Medical Examiner Kenneth Hutchins revealed that the doctor had violated Florida law by injecting fat into the patient’s gluteal muscles during the BBL procedure.

This is not the first time that a patient has died following a cosmetic procedure at New Life Plastic Surgery, the clinic where the BBL was performed. According to NBC, the same clinic had a previous patient who died

last February after developing a blood clot in her lungs following a liposuction and tummy tuck procedure.

The repeated incidents of patient deaths at New Life Plastic Surgery have raised concerns about the quality of care provided by the clinic, as well as the overall regulation of the cosmetic surgery industry in Florida.

Despite its growing popularity in recent years, the BBL procedure carries a number of potential risks. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the mortality rate associated with BBL is the highest of any cosmetic surgery, with an estimated one in 3,000 patients dying as a result of the procedure.

This statistic underscores the serious nature of the risks involved and highlights the need for patients to thoroughly research the procedure and choose a qualified and experienced surgeon to perform it. By being informed and taking the necessary precautions, patients can minimize the risks associated with BBL and increase their chances of a successful outcome.
