Body of Missing Florida Mom, Nyeisha Nelson, Found in Shallow Grave

Nelson went missing around Feb. 11 and was not seen or heard from family in days

The remains of a missing Florida mom have been found after she had been reported missing for over a week. Investigators have found the remains of Nyeisha Nelson, 20, in a wooded area, says a report by The Grio.

In a Tuesday afternoon news conference carried by Florida’s News 4 Jax, the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office Col. Joseph Wells announced Nyeisha Nelson’s death was ruled a homicide, but did not give details into the manner in which she was killed.

Nelson, a self-employed hairdresser, was reported missing by her family after she had not been heard from for several days. According to family, she remained in contact several times a day, but no one had heard from her or saw her since Feb. 11, 2021.

Her car was found a week ago in an abandoned and wooded area. Evidence was collected at the scene.

As they continued to search, detectives found human remains, which the medical examiner later identified as those of Nelson, around 8 a.m. Saturday. These were found about 4 or 5 miles away from where they found Nelson’s car.

Col. Wells does not believe Nelson’s killing is random.

“The investigation does suggest the likelihood that she knew the offender. This was not a random act of stranger on stranger violence,” he said. “But the exact motive is not known.”

They do not know much about Nelson’s time of death, but they do know that her car is key evidence in the murder.

“Her car is going to be a key part of this. Not so much the car – we have it – but who was driving that car around or after Feb. 11,” he said.

“Everybody that knew her or potentially would have had any contact with her at that time period, we want to talk to at this point,” Wells said of Nelson’s contacts.

“It has certainly not gotten to the point where we can identify whether the suspect is even male or female or who we’re looking for at this time.”
