Actor Clifton Powell Reveals Sound Advice He Gave Son About Dating Sasha Obama

"I have a responsibility to make my son responsible," he said.

NAACP Image Award-winning actor Clifton Powell revealed the sound advice he gave his son, Clifton Powell Jr., about dating former first daughter Sasha Obama during a recent podcast interview.

During a recent episode of the Dear Fathers podcast, Powell confirmed that his son had been dating former President Barack Obama’s youngest daughter for a year. In the interview, he also shared how he expected Powell Jr. to treat the 21-year-old.

“That’s amazing, ’cause you know that they’ve been going out for about a year, and it just hit the press, right? So, it has helped me talk to Chris about how to handle Sasha Obama because we love the Obamas, but Mr. Obama has a daughter that’s dating my son,” the Dead Presidents actor said. “I have an opportunity and a responsibility, to make my son responsible, gentle, kind, loving, and supportive. The things that I did not get taught.”

He added that he regularly texts his son to keep him in check.

“So, I text him all the time, and I say, ‘Treat Sasha like you would want somebody to treat your daughter.”

Back in April, the young couple was seen stepping out in West Hollywood amid rumors that they were together.

An insider reportedly described the pair as “very loved up,” “inseparable,” and “always laughing” during their outing, which included visiting some friends in the area.

“He seemed protective of her,” another onlooker said.

Former first lady Michelle Obama previously confirmed that both her daughters have been in relationships on an episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show

earlier that month, but she didn’t disclose who either of them were dating.

“Now, they have boyfriends and real lives,” Mrs. Obama said about her two adult girls on the hit talk show. “They have grown up right before our very eyes, and they’re doing well.”
