Academy’s Board Of Governors Award Angela Bassett An Honorary Oscar, Black Twitter Calls Them Out On Their Disrespect

That's a mf slap in the face!

Black Twitter is justly appalled and peeved at the Academy Award’s disrespect for awarding the legendary and astounding actress Angela Bassett an Honorary Oscar award.

The Academy’s Board of Governors dared to announce on Monday that the What’s Love Got To Do With It

actress will be presented with an Honorary Oscar award at the Academy’s 14th Governors Awards on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2023, taking place at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles.

Her breakthrough role as Tina Turner landed her first Oscar nomination for Best Actress, and she received her second nomination for portraying Queen Ramonda in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which she wasn’t happy to

lose, as seen in the viral video displaying her subtle disappointed look when Jamie Lee Curtis’ name was called instead of hers.

Bassett became an esteemed actress due to her superior work in movies like The Jacksons: An American DreamHow Stella Got Her Groove BackBlack PantherAvengers: EndgameAkeelah and the Bee and more. Yet, the Academy’s Board thought the world’s most prominent actress deserved

an Honorary Oscar award, not the real thing.

Black Twitter quickly slammed the Board for its disrespect.
