Sha’Carri Richardson has won her first individual race in the 2023 track and field season at the Miramar Invitational on April 8. The Saturday competition took place in Florida, and she got an official wind time of 10.77 seconds for the 100 meter sprint.

The 23-year-old ran the race with a normal time of 10.57 seconds on her sprint, but with the wind factoring, she ended up with 10.77 seconds. In her second race back in the season, Richardson earned the third fastest 100-meter dash of all time, according to Sports Illustrated. The first two record holders are Elain Thompson Herah at 10.54 seconds and Florence Griffith Joyner with 10.49 seconds in 1992 and 1959, respectively.

The weekend before, Richardson competed in her very first race of the year in Austin, Texas. She ran a 4×100 relay and placed second. The race marked almost one year since Richardson was blocked from competing in the Tokyo Olympics. Back in 2021, Richardson won the 100 meters at the US Olympic track and field events.  The block came from Richardson being suspended for one month by the United States Anti-Doping Agency for reportedly testing positive for marijuana around her race. It prevented her from being able to compete in the Tokyo Olympics.

Despite all the drama around her participation, fans on social media are excited to have her back!

WOW. Sha’Carri Richardson just ran a 10.57!!! The 4th fastest women’s 100m time EVER!

I’m glad to see this. Was worried how things went before the Olympics that maybe she’d check out. Great to see her reassert her talent on the track!
