25-Year-Old R&B Singer H.E.R Is Just One Tony Away From EGOT Status

One of the newer generation’s R&B artists, 25-year-old singer H.E.R, is just one Tony away from EGOT status.

According to Metro Weekly, H.E.R. (Having Everything Revealed), whose real name is Gabriella Wilson, just earned an Emmy, which makes her one step closer to EGOT. She collected the award at the inaugural Children’s and Family Emmy Awards on Dec. 10, as she won the honor as a writer on the We the People 

series. The animated Netflix series, executive produced by Kenya Barris, Barack Obama and Michelle Obama, reportedly came out on top in the Best Short-Form Program category.

To complete her EGOT, H.E.R. now needs a Tony award which she could possibly win if she joins Broadway and writes a musical or stars in one, among other options. She had already racked up 21 Grammy nominations and 5 Grammys, and an Oscar nomination for her 2021 single “Fight For You.”

“There’s absolutely going to be an EGOT in my future, hopefully,” she told People after winning Best Song at the Oscars. At the time, the singer added that she’s “also super passionate about acting as well, so you may see me up here as an actress also, and then I love musicals. Me and Brandy have been talking a lot and she’s inspired me, since she did a musical.”

The 25-year-old later made history as she starred in the A.B.C. rendition of Disney’s classic princess film, Beauty and the Beast in 2022. She also became the first Black female musician to launch her own Fender Signature Guitar in 2020.

If and when she earns a Tony, she’ll be joining legendary Black entertainers Whoopi Goldberg and Jennifer Hudson, who’ve already earned all four awards. Throughout the past few decades, many ambitious artists have strived to earn EGOT status, as it’s regarded as one of the most important honors an entertainer can receive in the U.S.
